Autism

Autism is a mental disorder which affects communication and behavior. It affects the body at the age of 3 and can't be cured. Autism is most commonly caused by inheritance, it is also caused by environmental influences for example- obesity, diabetes, immune system disorders e.t.c. autistic people have a tendency to have unshared laugh, which is when they laugh without something humorous happening or in a serious situation. There is a 27% chance of autism in every birth.

Types of autism

Asperger's Syndrome

Most people in this disorder are normal or above normal intelligence and posses strong verbal skills except for social speaking.(children have an advance vocabulary for their age) People with asperger's have problems understanding social cues which can be a joke or sarcasm, and can get incredibly interested in a specific subject.

Rett syndrome

Rett syndrome was disclosed as a part of autism due to it being a biological diagnosis while other kinds of autism are observational diagnosis.(but I will still consider it to be autism due this being very recent)

It ordinarily affects girls in a exceptionally young age being 6 months old. This syndrome includes trouble in social speaking and superior motor skills(being able to precisely move your arm and precisely be still)

Childhood disintegrative disorder(CDD)

This type for autism comes at a later age which could be 5-13 it is when a child who was an extrovert and was socially interactive and made eye contact, discontinues to be the same. This type of autism and result in seizures.

Kanner's syndrome(classic autism disorder)

This type of autism is what most people picture children on the autistic spectrum. This include challenges communicating understanding others no eye contact and hypersensitivity (sensitivity towards touch, taste, noise, light and smell)

Pervasive Developmental Disorder; Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS)

This type of autism is less server than others with this children might experience delay in speaking walking or lack behind other kids who are on pace to hit their developments.

Symptoms

The most common symptom is the behavior for example - poor eye contact, compulsive behavior, inappropriate social interaction, repetitive movements, self-harm, e.t.c. there are more symptoms which are less common like - speech delay, low attention span, unable to understand social/emotional cues, depression, e.t.c

Misconceptions

One of the biggest misconception is that autism is a disease that it can be caught through watching television, and something similar to that some conspiracy theorist think that vaccines cause autism but vaccines are the complete opposite of that.

"¯Autism is becoming an epidemic"¯ ; It is not an epidemic because it is not a disease it's a mental disorder it can't be transmitted it's caused by inheritance so people are either born with it or had an influence like diabetes.

"Autistic children are more violent"¯ ; This is not true due to autistic people not liking being touched or touching someone else so punching/kicking someone is out of the question.

"Bad parenting causes autism"¯ ; Only specific influences and genes can causes autism.

In conclusion, autism is a common disorder and most people don't know about it or when some people do they get confused between some other disorder like ADHD, so there are a lot of misconceptions about autism and how it's caused.
